Project course - guitar player’s Chair
Plenty of furniture is designed and built for general use, but even more is made for purpose. Playing a guitar in a typical armchair is an effort in futility; the arms get in the way of the guitar neck and limit your range of motion while also potentially damaging a very expensive instrument. This guitar player’s chair, designed by world-renowned luthier Bruce Kunkel and featured in an issue of Fine Woodworking Magazine for its unique aesthetic, aims to alleviate those issues, while also creating a stunning piece of traditional furniture that could be showcased in anyone’s home, musician or otherwise.
The seat is ergonomically designed to ensure comfort for long play sessions, while the splayed, Windsor-style back allows you the freedom to play without marring your instrument or contorting your body. And, the rung at the bottom provides a nice spot to rest your foot for comfort and support.
In this course, you’ll leverage many hand tool skills acquired from the Hand Tool Joinery course to complete this one of a kind chair. The course is $1,200 for instruction and materials. This class meets on Friday mornings from 10:00AM to 1:00PM, starting October 20th, 2023.
This course is subject to the Booking, Attendance, and Cancellations policy.
