Intermediate Cabinetry

The brand-new Intermediate Cabinetry course is a hands-on, powertool-based class that will help you develop the skills to design, plan, and create the centerpiece of traditional kitchens, modern offices, and everything in between - the cabinet. The art and science of cabinetry takes years to master, but Intermediate Cabinetry will give you the know-how to create the custom furnishings you’ve always dreamed of.

But cabinetry is more than just doors and drawers; it’s also critical to be able to lay out your design to your space, and to know what industrial design standards you should be expected to adhere to. This class will not only cover the building of cabinets, but how to lay them out and make sure your appliances will fit properly.

In the build portion of the class, you will learn how to create kitchen floor cabinets and wall-hung upper cabinets - skills that will translate to cabinetry to fit any space. The build will include both solid wood and plywood. You will also learn various methods of joinery, from traditional mortise and tenon to more modern domino joinery, to ensure your build precisely fits the style you’re seeking. You will also be using European-style hardware and hinges, and soft close drawer slides, in the build.

Please note that, since cabinets need to be custom-built to your space and preferences, that this class will not produce cabinets for you to bring home, but you can use the skills developed to build exactly what you want for your personal needs.

This course will run from 8-10 weeks, allowing for time overages, starting on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023 from 6:30PM to 9:30PM. Enrollment is $950.

Successful completion of Power Tool Woodworking is required before taking Intermediate Cabinetry. This course is subject to the Booking, Attendance, and Cancellation policy.
