Project - Shaker Oval Box

The Shaker oval box is a versatile piece of history that was used for many things, ranging from storing sewing supplies to jewelry. The endless possibilities of these boxes are only matched by their timeless design.

In this course you will be making four nesting Shaker oval boxes. This course will not only provide you with classic Shaker pieces, but you will also gain the knowledge to make these over and over again — using the same minimum tools and techniques as the Shakers did in the 18th century.

This class will run for two consecutive Saturdays - November 11th, 2023 and November 18th, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The cost of this course is $375 and includes instruction and materials for four nesting boxes in your choice of maple or cherry wood. Please specify the wood you would like to use to make your boxes when signing up.

The boxes shown above are similar to the final product, but there will be some variation in your final product. The final boxes will not have a traditional Shaker oil finish - part of the second day of the class will include a demonstration on how to finish the boxes with an authentic oil finish.
